Oman Launches First Satellite

The Sultanate of Oman is set to establish its first earth observation satellite facility, with the help of Madrid-based company Indra.

The facility, which will be located in Oman, will be equipped with proprietary software developed by Indra to produce high-quality images from the European Copernicus Sentinel constellation, one of the most technologically advanced programs currently in operation.

The facility will be used for a range of purposes including land management, urban design, maritime traffic safety, environmental preservation, and infrastructure planning. It will also serve as a business center, offering a range of commercial services to various government, public, and private sector institutions interested in acquiring satellite images and data for planning, decision-making, and growth strategies.

The facility will work in conjunction with the Aman project, which is Oman's first CubeSat satellite. The Aman project was developed with the help of the United States and Poland and is aimed at helping Oman enter the growing global earth observation sector, in which more and more satellites are being used for commercial purposes.
